A Message from Heather

 

Dear Friends,

 

It has been my honor to serve the citizens of Pasco County as the Superintendent of schools these past eight years.  Pasco has seen tremendous growth in that time and we have made remarkable progress meeting the needs of all children everyday. 

Some of the fine things that we have achieved under my guidance include:

 

  • * Being rated an “A” or “B” school district by the State of Florida
  • * Opening 22 new schools across Pasco County
  • * Having the first Silver LEED certified elementary school in the entire state, and winning the 2009
    Governor’s Green Schools Award for energy efficient and environmentally friendly schools
  • *Establishing Certified Career Academies at every Pasco County high school awarding highly respected industry certification to students in a full range of fields, trades and professions
  • *Earning district wide accreditation by the SACS/CASI – AdvancED association which guarantees that Pasco graduates hold respected credentials
  • *Having the lowest administrative costs of any district in the state while keeping spending for children in the classroom as my top priority
  • *Maintaining an “A” bond rating
  • *Creating a Five-Year Strategic Plan for our schools and renewing our Vision for 21st century learning and career success
  • *Establishing more than two dozen international classroom-to-classroom partnerships
  • *Implementing a technology plan that has put the latest equipment into the hands of Pasco’s children to support teaching and learning
  • *Launching the highly successful Pasco eSchool, providing our students with virtual education options
  • *Raising the high school graduation rate to 88.5% - a level that exceeds state and national averages, and reducing our drop out rate to 1% - far lower than state and national averages

While I am proud of every one of these accomplishments, what I realize is just how fortunate I am to lead a school district where children thrive.  Pasco’s teachers and leaders create a culture of caring that promotes success for every one of our over 67,000 students at our 84 schools.  I am humbled by their efforts and grateful for the continued opportunity to guide our Pasco family through the challenging waters that lie ahead.
